논문 개제 과정 및 리뷰, 걸리는 시간

지난 포스팅에서는 논문을 작성하고 투고할 저널에 아이디를 만들어서 투고하는 과정에 대해서 포스팅을 했었는데요. 오늘은 길고 긴 리뷰를 기다리는 시간에 대해서 적어보고자 합니다.

 

논문을 정상적으로 서미션을 하고나면 지난번 포스팅에 말씀을 드린바와 같이 이메일을 받게 됩니다. 제가 받은 메일은 아래와 같은데요. 제 이름과 메뉴스크립트 이름은 제외하였습니다.

When should I expect to receive the Editor's decision?

For Carbohydrate Polymers, the average editorial time (in weeks) from submission to first decision is: 5.7

and from submission to final decision is: 9.01.

What happens next?

Here are the steps that you can expect as your manuscript progresses through the editorial process in the Elsevier Editorial System (EES). 

1. First, your manuscript will be assigned to an Editor and you will be sent a unique reference number that you can use to track it throughout the process. During this stage, the status in EES will be ''With Editor". 

2. If your manuscript matches the scope and satisfies the criteria of Carbohydrate Polymers, the Editor will identify and contact reviewers who are acknowledged experts in the field. Since peer-review is a voluntary service, it can take some time but please be assured that the Editor will regularly remind reviewers if they do not reply in a timely manner. During this stage, the status will appear as "Under Review".

Once the Editor has received the minimum number of expert reviews, the status will change to "Required Reviews Complete".

3. It is also possible that the Editor may decide that your manuscript does not meet the journal criteria or scope and that it should not be considered further. In this case, the Editor will immediately notify you that the manuscript has been rejected and may recommend a more suitable journal.

위의 메일을 기준으로 하면 첫번째 투고 및 개제 결정은 5.7주 정도가 걸리고 파이널 결정의 경우는 9.01주 정도가 걸린다고 합니다. 개인적으로 주가 아니라 '일'이면 좋았겠다 싶은 생각은 듭니다만...

일단 정상적으로 서브미션이 되면 위와 같이 Submissions Being Processed에 위치를 하게 되는데요. 세부 내역을 확인해보면 아래와 같이 표시가 되게 됩니다.

우측 끝에 보면 Current Status가 있는데요. 가장 처음에는 With Editor, 이후 Under Review, Required Reviews Complete의 순서로 표시가 되게 됩니다. 

가장 먼저 편집장인 Editor에게 가서 저널에 합당한 내용의 논문인지 일차적으로 확인을 받게 되고 이후 Review를 해줄 peer reviewer들을 초청을 하게 됩니다. 위와 같은 경우는 With Editor는 지났으므로 일차적인 거절은 피한셈인데요. 이후는 그야말로 끝없는 기다림과의 싸움입니다. 다음 연락이 올 때까지는 꾸준히 확인을 해줘야합니다. 이 다음에 Major 혹은 Minor review 혹은 Reject comment가 오게 되는데요. 다음 번에는 Review에 대해서 알아보도록 하겠습니다.
